$1.49 Year of the Dog Souvenir Sheet

The Year of the Dog souvenir sheet that is found on First Day Covers has the UPC barcode tab removed from the souvenir sheet.

Upon close examination it can be seen that the small rouletting found between a mint souvenir sheet and the UPC barcode tab is not even present. This suggests that a different separation tool was used for the FDCs.

King Kong on 2006 Stamp
A set of four stamps will be issued by Canada in May 2006 that will feature "Canadians in Hollywood". These will released in conjunction with the Washington 2006 stamp show.

One of the designs was announced in early 2006, just prior to the opening of the King Kong movie re-make.

The Fay Wray stamp features the Empire State Building with King Kong at its top.

Two of the other subjects are expected to include Lorne Greene and John Candy

Perforation Difference on Jean Paul Lemieux 49c
The 49c value in the Jean Paul Lemieux issue of October 22, 2004 was released in a pane format and in a souvenir sheet.

The stamps from the full pane of 16 are perforated 12.9 x 13.2 while the single stamp from the souvenir sheet is perforated 12.9 x 12.8.

That is, the stamp from the pane has 35 holes on each left/right side while the souvenir sheet single has 34 holes on each sides.

New Picture Postage
October 8th saw the release of two new Picture Postage designs.

These are available in panes of 21 and 40 each.

"Write me...Ring me" Greetings Stamps
Updated Feb 2/05
A complete set of 4 cards sold for over C$300 on e-Bay on Feb 2, 2005! Unbelievable, especially when they can be bought at face value at many post offices across the country.

Canada Post issued FOUR new Greetings Stamps on May 31, 2004 as part of a "Write me...Ring me" promotion.

All four stamps, issued in 'panes' of two stamp issued consist of the central design printed directly on the stamp - this is a first for these kinds of stamps.

Each stamp design is sold in a greeting card which includes a 15 minute phone card. All three items - the greeting card, phone card, and postage stamps - feature the same design feature. These sell for $5.99 per card.

These stamps will prove to be very difficult to find, particularly in used condition.

Scott has assigned a major catalogue number to each of these four stamps. As such, they will appear in the next catalogue and on album supplements. Once this happens, collectors will be scrambling to obtain copies!

"Local" Stamps
Many of the stamps being issued by Canada Post in 2004 are being distributed primarily in a "localized" manner. That is, they are not being automatically shipped to every post office across the country.

The list includes the following:

  • Quebec Winter Carnival (Jan 29)
  • St. Joseph's Oratory (Apr 2)
  • University of Sherbrooke (May 4)
  • Montreal Children's Hospital (May 6)
  • University of Prince Edward Island (May 8)
  • Festival International de Jazz de Montreal (Jun 1)
  • Traversee Internationale du Lac St-Jean (Jun 1)
  • Canadian National Exhibition (Jul 19)
  • Montreal Institute of Cardiology (Sep 15)

If you are collector of used stamps you may have a tougher time finding these issues.
