Canada Post released a surprise "Gold Medal" stamp (and souvenir sheet) on February 14, 2010, the date that a Canadian Olympian won a Gold Medal for the first time on Canadian soil.
A self-adhesive single stamp, issued in a booklet of 10, and a water-activated gum souvenir sheet of two, were both released on Sunday, February 14, 2010 in Vancouver, BC. Distribution across Canada took a day or more before the stamps were available at all post offices.
A Canada Post Official First Day Cover was only released for the booklet single. Any "self-made" first day covers of the souvenir sheet dated Feb 14th, if they even exist, would be very scarce.
Souvenir sheets sold at Canada Post outlets were to include a red, foldable, folder to house and/or share the souvenir sheet with others. Reports indicate that some post offices were not distributing these with every souvenir sheet or did not have enough supply.
Orders of these stamps were limited to 5 per order. Word has it that the OFDCs are nearly sold out (and may be by the time you read this) and that the stamps will likely sell out in due time.
